Timelines are time-boxed units of work that represent a phase in the Unified Process project. In fact, iterative projects normally have iterations that run from two to six weeks. Usually, when a timeline ends, we want to have a release of the project. Iteration is a phase within that timeline that defines the required units of work (work items) to be accomplished within the timeline. This time boxing allows us to track when a project will complete, and when phases of a project should start and end. The iterative approach to software development allows the development team to establish a rhythm as well. This is very important!
