Trolls In My Attic

The sounds from the chimney stack were scratching, climbing, for what seemed like hours, were merely the passing of a few minutes. My heart was still pounding and growing into a deterring nuisance as the seconds passed like time at a standstill. I was mumbling curses and explicative statements that I'm not sure I could repeat or even remember if I tried today. I felt all the rage bubbling up that I had suppressed for decades. I looked down at the veins pulsing in my arms and wrists; I felt fear of the unknown, yet somehow invincible in this moment. It was as if God had sent a protector to stand by my side and had filled me with the strength of a giant bear. Then... it all stopped. -Silence. -Gone.
