JV — Juvenile Verse, or Junior Varsity — brings together three early chapbooks and all remaining unpublished but previously shared efforts from Wiggins’ school years. The title is apt; these are mostly second-string poems, exercises, and practice. PoetTree is the final project from a high school class. It is followed by items from college workshops, things never otherwise collected. Sonnets for the Damned and Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man Growing Older are both compilations of material from those years. This brings every word Wiggins thought worth sharing into print, making it easy to see just how wrong he was about most of them. For the most part, anything worth reading was already stripped out for the Selected Poems volume. This volume provides context and completeness.
