Evolutionary biology contains much truth and beneficial knowledge. I agree with much of what the evolutionary biologists say, but not everything. This book is not against all types of evolution. It's not an attack on science. Unfortunately, a lot of unverifiable assumptions, opinions, philosophies, and unscientific stuff has crept in over the years. I believe most of the definitions of evolution (see page 124) are true and perfectly scientific. However, when it comes to the theory of evolution, there's no one settled and universally agreed upon theory of evolution. In fact, as Jeremy Fodor and Massimi Piattelli-Palmarini succinctly state, "There are no biological laws of evolution. There's no theory of evolution. All there is, is natural history". If you read the theory of evolution (see page 120), it reads like a statement of history, not like a scientific theory. For starters, this may come as a shock to many, there’s no theory of evolution. "There are no biological laws of evolution. There's no theory of evolution. All there is, is natural history". - Jerry Fodor and Massimi Piattelli-Palmarini, What Darwin Got Wrong, (pages 183 & 187). I believe the key to having a sound understanding of evolution is to start by differentiating between the scientific definitions of evolution, most of which are true, and the theory of evolution, which is where we have big debates. But we must also differentiate between microevolution and macroevolution (defined on page 48). Microevolution is an undeniable fact that everyone, regardless of belief, accepts as true. Microevolution is true, all around us, observable, and proven in labs. Macroevolution, on the other hand, is where we have some monkey business. While the public perception is that it's an undeniable fact that all scientists agree on, I will show in this book that that's not entirely true. And that's why when someone asks me if I believe in evolution, my answer is, "It depends on what you mean by evolution: microevolution or macroevolution? Do you mean the theory of evolution or the definitions of evolution?
