Knowledge management has been described as ‘having an ability to know what an organization knows and being able to profit from such knowledge’. Knowledge is a vital organizational asset which enables an organization to survive, adapt and remain competitive in the face of changes within its environment. This means that relevant knowledge has to be continuously created and made readily available to the right people within the organization. Although the development of computers and telecommunication technologies has made it possible to manage information and knowledge far better then it was previously possible, knowledge management in organizations has also the added dimension of interaction, knowledge sharing, communication and analysis. This essay discusses knowledge management at NATO nad the United Nations.
