Mr. Runkles lived in a small apartment with his pigeon, Dexter. In the evening, the two of them would sit together on an old straw chair and listen to nothing. Just nothing. But when Mr. Runkles listened to nothing he could hear everything. A music box, the sound of chattering teeth or an organ grinder being played by an old man on a street corner and the pattering steps of his dancing monkey, who jumped and twirled in a little red hat. Symphonies, bird whistles, the murmur of a forest stream. Every night as he listened to nothing, he heard something new...
Until he came.
