THE CHURCH AND EUGENICS

Eugenics is the science which aims at improving the well being of the human race by studying the factors which affect bodily and mental health, with a view to the encouragement of the beneficial and the elimination of the harmful. Regarded by many today as a pseudo-science, or unchristian, it has been sanctioned by the Catholic Church, and other Christian churches, as beneficial to human culture and civilization. There are positive and negative genetics, this book concerns the Catholic teaching in light of positive genetics. Negative genetics are forbidden. Today eugenics is a part of the science of Genetics, which seeks to understand and promote health, well-being, and longevity in our populations. The book is a needed corrective to false ideas concerning both Christianity and Eugenics and remains timely for those who care about their children.
