Wise Owl's Moving On

"Wise Owl's Moving On," is an advanced second grade reading workbook and follows "Wise Owl's Moving Up," the easier of the two second grade reading workbooks. It introduces 75 new sight words. The two second grade workbooks teach words from Fry's second 100 and third 100 high frequency word lists. The workbook reviews old vowel sounds learned in the workbook before and teaches a couple of new ones. One new vowel sound taught is: 'y' says short 'i', as in 'gym'. The other new vowel sound is the schwa sound. There are word skills introduced such as contractions, homonyms, synonyms and antonyms. The student will also learn how to add common suffixes and prefixes to root words. Dictionary skills are begun. There are stories to practice sight words. Stories are always followed by a comprehension check. After that first story, there is a second story to read. That second story can be the continuation of the first story, or a story on a similar theme. There's an activity page that always follows.
