Sight-reading is a very important skill for keyboard players, and this method uses seventeen marked-up scores covering music from the two-and-a-half centuries before 1800 to show how performers can improve their ability to understand and decode the information there. Designed for players of harpsichord, clavichord, organ and fortepiano, the examples include music by Gibbons, Frescobaldi, Purcell, Buxtehude, Couperin, Bach, Haydn and others, supplemented by versions in the original clefs and by facsimiles of the manuscripts and early printed sources.
