Wartime Travels

‘Wartime Travels’ is a true story about one man’s experiences of the Second World War. The story begins as a 16 year old in 1940, when he left his electrical training and signed on a large troopship as an assistant steward. The ship, ‘SS Westernland’ was General De Gaulle’s Free French troopship. The author recounts experiences, of both the happy times and the sad times. Dreams of Old Blighty, English pubs, cool pints of beer and clean glasses hanging above the bars. Moving memories of those that lost their lives. In 1941 the family moved from Liverpool to Bury after being 'bombed out' and aged just 17, Frank joined the RAF as an electrician. The ups and downs of life in English RAF stations, then India, Germany, until eventual demob in 1947.The story is both entertaining and interesting, telling real stories from the heart.
