A Year Under Streetlights

My world spins on an axis called University East, a piece of the city two blocks by seven. It's mine to look out for, my piece of the city full up with predators, prey, victims and regular people just trying to get by. I look out for them. I watch their backs even when they haven't asked me to. The city loves them and she asks me to protect them. That's enough for me; I never could resist a woman in need.
