The Deutsches Rotes Kreuz Vermisstenbildliste was a compendium of missing soldiers, consisting of 199 bound volumes. The books had been assembled from the end stages of World War 2, up until 1957 by the German Red Cross. Its purpose was intended for
soldiers who were returning home, to identify lost comrades, giving the families of the soldiers some closure in concerning the whereabouts of their loved ones.
I have created a selection of the men that are contained in this book. I have chosen them out of their ambiguousness and I feel like this is a existentially humanist document. They become people once more, instead of the abstractions they had become previously.
