A new stenoendemic species, Mentha azischica Melamud, sp. nov., is described from the northwestern slope of the Azish-Tau Ridge (Lagonaki Highlands, North Caucasus). The species occurs in swamped forest glades within damp alder forests and is characterized by a unique combination of morphological, biochemical and ecological features. It is morphologically closest to M. caucasica Gand. s. str., from which it differs in its taller green (not reddish) stems, broader leaves, green (not purple) calyx with patent (not adpressed) indumentum of the tube, linear (not lanceolate) calyx teeth, white (not lilac), glabrous (not hirsute) corolla, ecology, and geographical isolation. From M. longifolia (L.) L. s. str. the new species differs in its pinene-dominated (not pulegone-dominated) aroma, larger leaves, green (not purple) calyx with patent (not semi-adpressed) indumentum of the tube, smaller white (not lilac), glabrous (not hairy) corolla, and geographical isolation. Type material was collected in August 2024 (flowering specimens) and November 2025 (fruiting specimens).
