Only Eaglettes Understand tells the reader how a small Tennessee town consistently turns out championship teams and high school All-Americans of whom excel on the basketball court and in the classroom. The Eaglette Story became national news when Shelbyville Central won its first of two national championships in 1989. Rick Insell, now the coach at Middle Tennessee State University, won 10 state championships at Shelbyville. He measured his success by the accomplishments of his players off court. Many were from broken homes where child abuse, neglect, drugs, and poverty were common. Bobby Locke (2 state titles), Insell, and present coach Lynn Burkey have each provided their players with the tools for living productive lives. Every parent should want their child to play for such a coach. Over 75 photos, plus rosters, championship game box scores, and records, are included in his 223-page blockbuster.
