Renee Iron Shields (born Margaret Layette) is a young vulnerable girl made a victim by bullies and sadists in her hometown of Houghlin, New York. Once she moves out to St. Paul Minnesota with her aunt, she transforms from a weak young girl to an assertive, courageous woman who defends others from crime. She decides she wants to be a cop after a traumatic event in Minnesota. She works as a detective in Syracuse, New York using her telepathic gifts granted to her by her ancestors from the Sisseton-Wahpeton Sioux Tribe, who appear to her and change her perspective on her future. Still, the past is not something that Renee can easily shed when she must come face to face with one main perpetrator and sadist from her past that comes back to stir up old anxieties.
