A rollicking, ribald, account of the making of Gerard Damiano’s 1974 sexually explicit film, The Devil in Miss Jones, is followed by a fast-paced, humorous look at the rest of her life by the film’s star, Georgina Spelvin. “I honestly never thought anyone I knew would ever see the thing!” she wailed when the film’s box-office success threw her into an unexpected and uncomfortable spotlight. Ironically, a spotlight was exactly what she had come to New York to find as a young dancer from Texas in 1954. She did find it, briefly, in the original Broadway production of The Pajama Game. Twenty years later, it glared unrelentingly on what she now describes as her “dubious achievement award.” Demons – including “Demon Rum” – are met and dealt with. Ultimately, it is a love letter to her mother.
