Physical altercations in the real world do not look like what we see on TV. Especially martial arts action movies. They also do not look like a sanctioned boxing or MMA event. Altercations in the real world have no rules and have no rounds. They are fast, violent, chaotic, and messy. Combat sports have rules to reasonably protect their fighters and timed rounds, and they also have weight classes. Both martial arts and combative sports take years to train in and get good at. Most people do not have that kind of time. This book is intended to serve both those who put themselves in harm’s way on a daily basis (police, firefighters, EMTs, and other security personnel) and regular citizens who are interested in learning how to protect themselves. But who also lack the time required to master a particular martial art or combat sport.
What is offered in the following pages is an approach to self-defense/combatives I would like to compare to CPR and First Aid. CPR saves lives! You can learn it in a day. The same professionals I listed above know it. Plenty of regular people know it, and it works! Then you have doctors and nurses. They train for years and do things that CPR and First Aid are not designed to do. Our black belts and combat sports professionals are closer to nurses and doctors in this analogy. But, doctors and nurses still know and use CPR and first aid when it is necessary. This book shares the principles and techniques that have stood the test of time and proven to be the most effective for ending a physical confrontation quickly within the "use of force" continuum helping you to get home, to your loved ones, safely.
