To peruse Pieces of String is to open a window to the past and sit around the dinner table, the family reunions, the old swimming hole, the Moore Bros. general store “just up the road a piece” where cedar whittlings pile up, and to listen to the older generation pass on their life’s experiences. Over the past quarter of a century, the editors (three first cousins) requested, sometimes cajoled, contributed, and collected submissions from aunts, uncles, cousins, and even family friends. As long as the submission could be put to paper, there were no restrictions, no serious editing, and none were turned down as inadequate. The potpourri includes prose, poetry, photographs and drawings submitted hopefully to keep memories, and thus the people, figuratively at least, alive.
