The first thing to remember is, it's CANDY......NOT “Candace,” and if you try to use her real name, as her mother often does, she'll launch into a slang-jive fit. The second thing to know about CANDY is that she was a very successful teen-adventure-comedy series, with 66 appearances in Police Comics and her own 64-issue series over more than a decade, even outlasting the Quality collapse that saw the end of such iconic titles such as Blackhawk. CANDY, with her ultra-conservative “square” parents, particularly irritating boyfriend, and of course friends and rivals, seems to be stepping into one bit of trouble after another, no malice intended, and her stories had a “quality” (pun intended) which Michelle Nolan said had “internal logic,” which made them more popular with readers*.
