JUMBO COMICS was not the first comic book, but it could be called a comic book of firsts – because this long-running series launched dozens of comic characters, and featured many of the great names of comics such as Jack Kirby, Bob Powell, Will Eisner, Matt Baker, Dick Briefer, Bob Kane and others. JUMBO began primarily as a reprint comic, but before long was a full-color showcase for original stories. From 1938-1953 --- a fantastic 15 year run, JUMBO COMICS was a mainstay of the Golden Age of Comics and Beyond. During its heyday, the lineup of JUMBO COMICS remained the same for over three years, a testament to the popularity, quality and creativity of this classic series.
This GIANT book collects the first eight issues, which were not published in full color, though not technically black & white since many of the pages were themselves colored paper. If you prefer the B&W, these are the Gwandanaland brand versions. If you prefer the natural-color pages, check out the Midcentury and ZAPP brands. Starting with Issue #9 JUMBO moved to full color.
This contains the first or early works of names like Eisner, Kane, Kirby, and Briefer, before they were those guys!
