The Time Machine is an acclaimed 1895 dystopian post-apocalyptic science fiction novella by H. G. Wells about a unnamed Victoria n scientist known as the Time Traveller who travels approximately 802,701 years into the future. The 1895 first edition of the novel was published in the United States by Henry Holt and in the UK by William Heinemann. The work is generally credited with the popularization of the concept of time travel by using a vehicle or device to travel purposely and selectively forward or backward through time. The term "time machine", coined by Wells, is now almost universally used to refer to such a vehicle or device. The Time Machine has been adapted into two feature films of the same name, as well as two television versions and many comic book adaptions. It has indirectly inspired many more works of fiction in several media productions.
