King Solomon's Mines

The Mines of Solomon originally published in 1885, is a bestseller written by Henry Rider Haggard, writer and fabulist Victorian adventure. The book recounts a journey into the heart of Africa by a group of adventurers led by Allan Quatermain in search of fabled wealth that is said to be hidden in the mines that give name to the novel. It is the first adventure novel about Africa and is considered the forerunner of the "lost world" literary genre in which one discovers a new world forgotten by time, hence its importance.
