Hala MK. Osman is a Sudanese writer who graduated from Qaboos University in the Sultanate of Oman, College of Arts, with a degree in English Literature. She obtained a postgraduate diploma in English Translation from the University of Juba and pursued postgraduate studies at George Mason University in the United States. She has lived in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, where she has been exposed to diverse cultures that have inspired her writing. The White Butterfly is more than a fleeting visitor; it is a symbol of hope, memory, resilience, and the quiet beauty that survives even in difficult times. In this beautifully illustrated collection, Hala MK. Osman brings together a rich selection of poetry and short stories exploring childhood, love, faith, loss, identity, and the enduring spirit of Sudan. Written over many years and accompanied by the author’s original illustrations, these works weave together personal reflection, cultural memory, and timeless storytelling. With warmth, insight, and quiet elegance, the author invites readers into a world where everyday moments reveal profound truths, where tradition meets modern life, and where hope continues to bloom despite hardship. We are pleased to introduce her to readers through this book, which contains selected writings she wrote while growing up. This is a book to be read slowly, treasured deeply, and returned to time and again.
