My first piece is called "The Softball Field" which is a sense of place essay that I hold close to my heart. It is about why the softball field feels like home to me. I explain every ounce of love I have for the sport in detail, and express to the readers what passion for a sport feels like. The thematic idea involves the connection between passion for a sport, and a place that feels like home. I go in depth on the mental drain some competitive sports have on many athletes around the world and the struggles that I, personally had to go through to get when I am today. My second piece is called "Ballons". It is a fictional story about a nuclear family undergoing a tragic event, an invasion from universal enemies that their planet had no idea about. It is exciting and enticing to read, pulling the readers in with thoughts such as "whats going to happen next". The thematic idea is the relationship between government and civilians, love and family, and loss. My third piece is called "Why" and it follows a teenage girl named Hailey who is having a teenage crisis, she is rethinking her purpose in life and her purpose in school and work. She struggles with societal norms and doing what is expected of her. This story dives into the mind of a teenage brain and why being told what to do in life is an issue for many growing teenagers. It explains the need and want to rebel in these. The thematic idea connects a growing teenager girl, and wanting to break societal norms.
