A modern egalitarian haggada for Passover according to the traditional customs of the Sephardim and Eastern (Mizrahi) Communities, including the Hebrew text with egalitarian additions and a contemporary gender-sensitive English translation. Because of This – A New Egalitarian Traditional Sephardi/Mizraḥi Haggada Of Passover offers a fresh opportunity for individuals and families to engage meaningfully with Passover. The text, with a contemporary gender-sensitive English translation, will be familiar to Sephardi/Mizraḥi communities but can be used equally well by others. Modest innovations enhance the haggada’s relevance to a modern age. Optional meditative intentions precede many of the activities. A few morally problematic passages have been reworded. Symbols that have become common only in recent years, such as the orange, are incorporated. The role of women in the Exodus is recognized with Miriam’s Cup and other material related to the women of the Exodus story. Hebrew fonts created especially for this haggada make the text attractive as well as readable. Footnotes point to biblical and rabbinic sources. Because of This is a unique contribution to celebrating the Festival of Freedom.
