Julian Whittle is a high school principal whose career and life has extended past its use by date. His wife, Yolanda is a successful author of teen pulp fiction. Their son, George is a final year high school student and would seem to be the perfect child. George meets Stephanie, a teenage runaway, and takes her home to share his bed. Julian’s career is put on hold when an American interview with Yolanda surfaces and is passed around at school. In the interview Yolanda describes the beginning of her relationship with her husband – she was a student and he a considerably older teacher. His behaviour with Stephanie and others suggests that his fondness for young girls hasn’t abated with age. Stephanie’s father takes her back to an unpleasant home. Soon after she falls from a cliff and the injury puts her into a coma in which she stays, attended conscientiously by George, until she conveniently dies. Three police officers join force to find out what has happened.
