"A Apple Pie" was a nursery rhyme which dates back to the mid-seventeenth century. In 1886, the nursery rhyme was illustrated and published as a children's book by author Kate Greenaway.
This current edition has been edited and published by Ian McKenzie. It contains all of the original illustrations and text used by Kate Greenaway, but also has added colour and graphics which it is hoped will be appealing to young children learning the alphabet.
Over three hundred years ago when this nursery rhyme was popular, the English language did not differentiate between the letters "I" and "J". When the letter was used, it always preceded a vowel. Because of this there is no listing in Kate Greenaway's book for the letter "I". This is not a mistake, she was simply using the rhyme that was used centuries ago.
