Becoming an Artist is part history of place, part oral history, and part lyric memoir that recounts Jack’s adolescent artistic endeavors during World War ll to the celebrated artist that he is today. Becoming, is a brooding tale, sometimes intensely humorous, sometimes as troubling, violent, and breathtaking as a Kansas storm.
“My art and my writing are a way of being, an ever-changing combination of things, like collage, never complete. I choose to be a teller of tales, a singer, a philosopher, a master of make believe, a guide to a spiritual connection that reveals mysterious worlds far beyond self-imposed boundaries. I desire to give voyagers a new way of seeing their world and to travel to a place where we encounter our dreams that open the inner sanctum to fly. I wander the Museum of Time searching for words and symbols that will do this. Sometimes I get lucky.”
