Wind in the Wires

Wind in the Wires covers the history of flight from its beginnings at Kitty Hawk to breaking the sound barrier by Chuck Yeager in 1947. It is a striking collection of photographs and Jacks art accompanied by his prose, prose poetry and quotes from famous flyers. Jack and his younger brother Roger grew up during World War 11 and were captivated by the planes. It is his flying dreams that read like moody and listless meditation. "I lay on my bed and like Icarus, dreamed of flying towards the sun. I could feel my swallow-tipped wings against the pink and purple clouds of a morning sunrise, feel the pressure against my goggles, muffled breath in the oxygen mask, the tightness of the cockpit, as my Spitfire climbed and banked and looped in slow rolls through the lonely battlefields of sky. Far into the night, after the lights were out, I was still there, soaring above the earth, with the glow of the engine exhaust, control panel lights, and the stars, guiding my way back home." All book profits will be donated to the Kingman Heritage Hall of Honor, Kingman, Kansas.
