They knew it was coming. Scientists tasked to game the projections had made it clear; there were no viable counter- measures, no mathematical solutions. Even the most optimistic scenarios required seismic shifts in human society that in themselves would cause social and economic catastrophe. A secret meeting was convened in Vienna. There amidst the backdrop of European high society, global powers made a decision, the consequence for which would only become fully understood decades into the future. The limos left as quickly as they had arrived and the world of man went on as usual, for a time.
