Deathsong

Had Travis blinked his eyes he would have missed the blurring movement. Wade's gun suddenly appeared in his hand and there was the sound of one rolling shot and one red, belching flame that pierced through the dimly lit cave. He waited to see if Wade would fire again and was shocked when he slid his gun back into its holster. He glanced to see the reaction of the other two men. Pogey had fallen and lay on the ground unmoving. Suddenly the other two pitched face forward to the ground. They had been dead on their feet. He rose slowly to his feet and walked closer to the dead men. Then without a word he walked on to the mouth of the cave. He needed some fresh air. In saving Wade Morgan's life, he had brought a man-killing tiger from the grave.
