An OSR Adjacent game with non-linear scaling requiring only standard six sided dice, designed to allow characters to start out feeling heroic without ever becoming overpowered. Designed for fast, cinematic action; out of the box approaches; simple, streamlined, and freewheeling play. The epic dragon can legitimately threaten a kingdom, without handwaving, but be defeated by well-equipped high-level characters. “What is ‘The Ancient Age’?,” you might be asking, and that could mean different things to different people. Here, it has nothing to do with the ancient age in a real world sense, that is, it does not represent historical antiquity. You could, of course, use these rules with such a setting, but that is not what the title refers to. Rather, it is an allusion to the forgotten lost ages in some classic fantasy literature, such as “The Third Age” or “The Hyborian Age.” It doesn’t assume campaigns will be set in such an age (though they could be), but rather it references the feel of stories with such settings. Most campaigns will likely take place in purely fictional worlds, either created by the game master or adapted from other sources. In the end, that part is up to you. This is first and foremost a game of imagination, where players can explore fantastic worlds as character they create. It’s also a game of problem-solving, where you can solve puzzles and traps; and it’s a game of strategy, where the right weapons and tactics make all the difference in a fight. But most of all, it’s a game you make into whatever you like.
