There's finally something to do in the little town of Pinehollow: a haunted corn maze has opened at the edge of the fields, watched over by a grinning, pumpkin-headed scarecrow called Cornfield Jack. Everyone's talking about it — and about the rumors, the people who wander in after dark and don't come out for days. So when a bully dares Cole for being scared, his fearless big sister Nova drags him straight through the gate to prove they aren't afraid of anything. Inside, the paths close up behind them. The clocks run wrong. And the scarecrow on the post by the entrance... isn't a prop. Nova and Cole barely make it out — but the next day a kid from school is reported missing in the maze, and the only ones who know what's really in the corn are the two who escaped it. To bring him back, they'll have to go in one more time, outsmart Cornfield Jack on his own ground, and reach the one thing in all that darkness he'll never follow them into. Cornfield Jack doesn't get many guests who leave.
