Lead to Evil is the first novel in a connected trilogy that traces the lives of its characters through periods of change and transformation before, during, and after the Iranian Revolution. The story begins in the mid-1950s (1330s in the Iranian calendar) and extends to the late 2000s, following the turbulent lives of a group of childhood friends from an old, traditional neighborhood in southern Tehran. These friends are both witnesses to and participants in the significant social changes of their era—changes that lead each of them down a different path. Yet, their friendships and family connections remain intact up until the eve of the Revolution. The conflicts and contradictions that arise during the Revolution are of a different nature, creating deep rifts within families and among the neighborhood friends that are not easily overcome. Lead to Evil is a multi-layered, eventful novel featuring numerous characters, multiple narrators, and diverse narrative perspectives. Its broad temporal and spatial scope engages the reader with events spanning several decades, set against the vast social and political landscape of Tehran. Despite its length (over 500 pages), the novel is tightly packed, with its rich human, social, and political themes interwoven into the fabric of its dynamic and varied events. اسباب شّر اولین رمان از سه گانۀ بهم پیوسته‌ای است که تغیر و تحولِ زندگی شخصیت‌های خود را قبلِ انقلاب، درجریان انقلاب و بعد از آن دنبال می کند. وقایع این رمان از میانۀ دهۀ سی شمسی آغاز می‌شود و تا اواخر دهه هشتاد ادامه می‌یابد و در خلال آن زندگی پرتلاطم چند رفیق دبستانی در محله‌ای سنتی در جنوب تهران دنبال می‌شود. آنها شاهد و بازیگر تغییرات اجتماعی چشمگیر دوران خود هستند، تغییراتی که زندگی هر کدام را به مسیر متفاوتی می‌کشاند اما دوستی‌ها و رفت‌وآمدهای خانوادگی آنها را تا آستانه انقلاب پابرجا نگه می‌دارد. اختلاف‌ها وتضادهایی که در جریان انقلاب سر بر می‌آورد، از جنس دیگری است وشکاف‌های عمیقی در درون‌ خانواده‌ها و بین دوستان هم‌محلی پدید می‌آورد که غلبه بر آنها آسان نیست. رمانِ پرشخصیت و پرماجرای اسباب شر به دلیل حضور راویان متعدد، دیدگاه های روائی متنوع و بستر زمانی و مکانی گستردۀ آن، ساختاری چند لایه دارد و خواننده را از منظرهای متفاوت با وقایعی که طی چندین دهه درگستره‌ای به وسعت فضای اجتماعی وسیاسیِ شهر تهران رخ می‌دهند، درگیر می‌کند. با وجود حجیم بودن (بیش از پانصد صفحه)، اسباب شر رمانی فشرده است که مضامین انسانی، اجتماعی و سیاسی متنوع آن در دل تنوع وقایع نهفته‌اند و نه با پرگوئی و توصیف، که با ریتم زندگی روزمره روایت می‌شوند
