A worldweary (if somewhat clueless) cosmopole is stranded in the Midwest.
A chance confrontation with a Personified Missouri River leads to a prolonged interchange.
Amidst social commentary and observations, River undertakes to recount the extended history of one isolated stretch of riverbank.
There ensues a tale of various prehistoric inhabitants of that spot.
Interspersed is also pseudo-scientific theories and postualtions.
Perhaps a bit tongue-in-cheek, this is intended to convey a serious message as well. The pomposity is hoped to entertain as well as to cause pause to ponder. Everyday pomposity is rampant in society, and is corroding the quality of life; perhaps this may spur some re-evaluation and mitigate this trend.
The whole book was written to engender fun and maybe--just maybe--some serious contemplations.
