This is a desk reference for modeling and analysis of radar systems and is intended for United States Department of War test and evaluation analysts. The reference provides a mathematical foundation for performing modeling and analysis using MATLAB with the Radar Toolbox.
Radar, an acronym for RAdio Detection And Ranging, was developed from early 20th-century experiments and was crucial for Allied victory in WWII. Its history includes key developments like the first patent in 1904, the discovery of radio wave reflection by ships in 1922, and the first practical radar system developed by Sir Robert Watson-Watt in 1935. Thus, for over 100 years, the United States defense establishment has been advancing the effectiveness of radar systems to leverage a strategic industrial, scientific, and military advantage.
Test and evaluation (T&E) is an integral part of developing, maintaining, and sustaining the effective use of radar. T&E analysts and engineers can use MATLAB to perform T&E on radar systems and to generate radar data for testing other systems. However, this desk reference is not intended to be a comprehensive treatment of radar engineering knowledge. Radar developers and practitioners should look elsewhere for help.
