A mother has her family taken away after the death of her husband. Set at the end of the 1800s and into the first forty years of the new century, this story is of how the oldest child, William, copes with the forced separation from the rest of his family.
The locations range from his home country of England to where he is first taken, Ontario in Canada, and also to California, USA.
His search for his brother and sister, who are also in Canada, is an ongoing quest. William returns to England to fight in World War One and for a few years seems to have accepted his new way of life. Yet, deep within him the questions still rage about his own family. The search for answers has repercussions on his life, his wife and their four children.
