A Simple Thought

A Simple Thought

and a Small Collection of Other Works

ByJoel Bryant

“A Simple Thought” This work is a poem following a person reminiscing about losing memories that meant so much to them. How memories become too distant and as a result, we forget them. Losing memories such as these can be painful and it's hard to come to grips with not being able to picture them anymore. You wish you could still remember but you just can’t and there’s no way to get them back. That’s the type of pain that I tried to convey through this work. “Seasons of Change” These works of acrostic poetry were my attempt at describing the changes that nature often undergoes. From the changing of a season to the change in the time of day, things are always developing in the world around us. My goal was to convey this and the different emotions felt as these changes occur. “A Race of a Lifetime” This is a story about my first postseason race for cross country. I talk about the events leading up to the race and the race itself. I included the thoughts and feelings of the moment and how it all turned out. This story is also written in the first person. This piece focuses on the emotions and excitement that are associated with running races. It conveys to the reader that a cross country race can be so much more interesting than they originally thought. “The Running Duck” This short story is my attempt to write a fairy tale. It follows the story of Mr. Duck, a duck who cannot swim properly. He spends the story trying to figure out how to swim properly along with the help of his friend Henry the Turtle. I wanted to try and play around with the idea of failure and how you deal with it. I wanted to convey the idea to my readers that failing is ok and sometimes something you really want is not going to work out. Sometimes you may need to explore other avenues and discover that you may be great at something that you didn’t expect.
