As he lies dying, Stalin is convinced that his body has been paralysed by the devil. Memories of his personal and political life flash through his mind, especially of Valechka, his faithful, dedicated housekeeper and secret lover. Just before he breathes his last, Stalin realises that he has been liberated from the demon's grasp, perhaps thanks to Valechka herself.
