Few books about sanctification have been as influential as this work by J C Ryle. It has proved life-changing for many who have read it and is rightly recommended reading for all Christians. Written in Ryle’s characteristic style, each chapter focuses on a key theme related to a believer’s sanctification, compelling the reader to see the vital necessity of a real relationship with God as opposed to the cold formality of so many. Later chapters illustrate principles by means of biblical examples including those that function as warnings to us. The lightweight nature of so much that is written today on this theme is exposed by such writing as this. J C Ryle served as a minister in Anglican churches in East Anglia for almost 40 years before becoming the first Bishop of Liverpool and was a staunch evangelical. His writings continue to be appreciated and remain in print.
