There is a mystique and romance to English Spying. A desire for deniability meant consecutive governments refused to even confirm the existence of MI6 and MI5. Those in their turn deny actions they or their assets carry out. An asset is a person, body or private company that is not a member of one of the services but does carry out tasks for them. Again this provides a level of ‘Hands-Off’ detachment. A modern day Flashman, this is the personal story of one of those shadowy and disposable characters.
