Widely recognized as the first published text on forestry. The author was known for his knowledge of trees, and his treatise Sylva, or A Discourse of Forest Trees was written and published in 1664 as an encouragement to landowners to plant trees to provide timber for England's burgeoning navy. This is a reproduction of the first edition of 1664.
