About John Flower

I write and illustrate children's books. My first book, Grin the Green Shark, was illustrated by a good friend of mine, Martin Bakker. It was a huge learning experience for both of us. My second book, Africa Sure is a Wonderful Place, is a fun book about my home continent, Africa. I love it here, and it's only natural that I'd write a silly little poem story about it. It features monkeys, a lion, an elephant, and some other animals found on our continent. Although I've been told that a kiddie story should contain a moral lesson, I kind of try to follow my own way of writing. I think that every story contains some sort of lesson, even if you don't try to write with one in mind. Africa Sure is a Wonderful Place, for instance, is a happy story, and displays kids of different race having a good time together. I think that's a HUGE achievement already, not so? I like to think so. Also, the story tries to convey the idea of Africa's diversity, which cannot really be captured in a small book.
