We Like Our Gates

ByJohn Herman

Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
I snuck into my favorite gated community, Laguna Lake. There is a huge pond (the locals call it a lake)that I like to walk out to, where I can sit on a bench, take in the scenery, read, pray and reflect. Out of my peripheral vision I saw three dark shadows approaching: two men and a lady. The peaceful darkness was disturbed by one of the men asking me, “What is your business here?” I got threatened and kicked out. ...the lady looked at me and said these four words: “We like our gates.” We… like… our… gates… This book is about those four words. This book is about gates: gates into life, the scriptures, churches, suburbia, family; gates erected for the sole purpose of hording beauty and keeping people out. This book is about finding ways to rip out the gates. This book is about looking for God in the beautiful and unexpected. This book is about Gospel. - John Herman
