The author had finished Deuteronomy in the "for You and Me." After the dire predictions of Moses that the Israelites would be disobedient and suffer the curses rather than the blessings, he wanted to write about something positive. Joshua warned the Israelites about disobedience and challenged them to choose whom they would serve. But it is basically a book of victory.
