THE DEAD LEG PEOMS are a collection of John M. Bennett's poems written during a difficult period of recovery after a complicated hip replacement surgery in December 2025. Often the author's focus, both on a daily basis and as he wrote, was accompanied by an awareness of pain in his leg. About sixty of the visual poems scattered throughout the book are calligraphic ink drawings/text, many with rubber stamping and/or collage material using security envelope patterns. Often characters with arms and legs are depicted in distress, be it existential or the distress of bodily pain. The spelling of 'poems' as 'peoms' in the title is a deliberate transduction, an attempt at levity when the stakes are high.
