On July 31, 1981 an airplane carrying Panamanian leader Omar Torrijos and ten million dollars worth of bonds bought with CIA seed money went down in the rugged jungles of Panama. When a U.S. Special Forces team went to recover the body, the briefcase handcuffed to Torrijos' aide was filled with blank papers. More than twenty-five years later Doctor Rachel Jamison thinks she is going to Costa Rica to attend a medical conference on geriatric care, but she soon finds herself and several patients entwined in a CIA mission to locate and recover the missing bonds.
