This is the story of Senator William Alden Smith, who discovered it was much more than an iceberg that sank the Titanic, but no one believed him. This fast-paced, narrative history account uses actual recorded dialogue and testimony. The author is an aerospace engineer with a reputation for finding the cause of engineering failures, such as his investigation of the Space Shuttle Challenger accident for NASA. He uses 8 years of research, drawing on eyewitness accounts, official testimony, newspaper stories, photographs, the wreckage, and analyses of the Titanic’s design to show the iceberg did not sink the ship; it was explosions from hydrogen gas due to electricity flowing to submerged parts of the ship. 1) The Titanic sailed with unfinished rooms, missing equipment, and watertight doors that did not always close; 2) The wireless operator saw an iceberg 10 minutes before the accident, and 3) The ship was turning as the lookout called the bridge to report an iceberg as the ship moved at only half speed or less.
