John Willison was an evangelical minister of the Church of Scotland, who spent the majority of his ministry pastoring in Dundee. He was well-known in his own day and in succeeding years for his many helpful works, especially concerning the Lord’s Supper and the proper observance of the Lord’s Day. . . . The following work was rarely published by itself, usually being joined to his Sacramental Meditations and Advices. It describes, with unapologetic directness, several duties and habits incumbent upon all who would live as Christians, usually taken from the words of a text or texts of Scripture. He urges no resting upon one’s own strength or merit, but constantly drives men to seek justification through the all-sufficient merits of Christ, and sanctification through the all-sufficient grace of His Spirit.
