News stories from around the world – all appearing online on Oct. 27, 2004 – inspired each poem in this book. I selected stories from local and national media, as well as from media appearing in English-speaking countries that are our allies. My hope is that these poems will function as a series of snapshots of what was happening in our world on this date in time. Perhaps the stories foreshadow future events. Certainly, they embody what has come before. The cover art is a satellite image of ground zero, where the World Trade Center once stood. It is also ground zero for 10/27.
